A Norwegian study of 405 individuals who complained of general sleep problems, tested the use of valerian over the course of two weeks. The primary aim of the study was to establish whether valerian improved sleep quality.
Results: There was an average improvement of 29% in sleep quality. There were similar improvements with regard to sleep duration and the frequency of waking up in the night.
There were no serious undesired outcomes as a result of taking valerian. Conclusion: According to the assessment by the authors, valerian can be safely consumed.
